What Is Biobanking?

The biobanking is an emerging technology that deals with collecting biological samples for curing diseases. Biological inputs in terms of specimens and samples are obtained from different individuals and stored in a depository, which are used for study in the future for analyzing, diagnosing and curing complex and unknown diseases. This proactive measure is used not only for curing diseases, but also for research work on certain biological behaviors, theories or unknown activities.
A lot of factors are involved while storing data in a Biobank. Firstly, there is a specific temperature at which data have to be stored in order to save them from any environmental barriers. There are various specimen shipping systems available in the market, which are configured in such a way that different temperature requirements are met. Another important aspect is the way by which the specimens are preserved. The casing should be done in a secure way in order to avoid any physical damage.
Further, all data would have to be stored in a centralized computer server so that back up can be arranged effectively. Integrity and information security have to be assured to donors. Information about the donor would have to be preserved with utmost confidentiality and security.
